What is MCP, and why Claude?

In plain words what MCP is, what tools, skills and agents are, and why Hyre recommends Claude as your AI assistant.

Written by Robin Alcedo Overbosch

With MCP your own AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot) works directly in Hyre: in your ATS, email, LinkedIn, conversations and calendar. You ask in plain language, the assistant does the work.

MCP in one minute

It used to be that every system had its own separate connection (API), and you had to get something built for each one. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is one standard that lets an AI assistant work with all those systems at once.

Hyre puts all your channels in one MCP: your ATS or CRM, email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, meetings and phone calls, your calendar and your tasks. So in one go your assistant can, for example: - create a candidate in your ATS, - prepare a draft message on LinkedIn or by email, - and suggest a meeting at a time you are free.

In short: anything you normally do by hand, you can ask for.

Tools, skills and agents

  • Tool: the gateway. For example "read my meetings" or "write a note in the ATS".

  • Skill: the method. The skill knows how to do something well, for example what a call note should look like in your ATS. Your tone of voice is a skill too: how you write.

  • Agent: a skill plus the tools to carry it out. Routines such as Start je dag run every day; power agents such as the Matching Agent you start yourself.

Why Claude?

  • Claude comes from Anthropic, the company that created MCP. The connection with Hyre works noticeably best in Claude: it fetches the right data better and asks better follow-up questions, for example whether someone is a candidate or a contact.

  • ChatGPT and Copilot work too. You pick your assistant under Settings › Profile at Ask AI client.

  • Everyone uses their own account with the AI assistant. One Claude account belongs to one Hyre account. If you share an account, everyone only sees the email and LinkedIn of whoever is connected, and everything in your ATS ends up under one name.

Which plan do you need?

  • For Claude, at least Pro. On the free plan you get stuck after a few messages, and scheduled routines don't work.

  • Working as a team? Claude Team is handy: the owner adds Hyre once and manages permissions for everyone. See Add Hyre to Claude Team or Enterprise.

  • If you do a lot of bulk work (for example as a manager), you may need a higher Claude plan.

  • You pay for your AI assistant yourself, to Anthropic, OpenAI or Microsoft.

What does the assistant see?

Exactly what you are allowed to see in Hyre, nothing more. You sign in to Hyre yourself when you connect. More in Privacy and your data.
