LinkedIn warning or restriction: what now?

A recovery plan for when LinkedIn warns you, blocks your invitations or restricts your account for a while.

What you see

One of these signals from LinkedIn: - a notice that you reached the weekly invitation limit; - a request to confirm your identity or phone number, or a CAPTCHA; - a notice that your account is temporarily restricted; - you keep getting logged out, or your acceptance rate suddenly drops hard.

In Hyre you may also see: LinkedIn's limit for connection requests is reached for now. Try again tomorrow. or LinkedIn is rate limiting requests. Please try again in a few minutes.

Why this happens

LinkedIn watches for behaviour that doesn't look human: too many requests or messages in a short time, a sudden spike, many pending requests, a low acceptance rate, logging in from different countries or several tools at once. LinkedIn publishes no fixed thresholds and every account is different. So an account can get a warning even within Hyre's limits.

There are roughly three levels: 1. Invitation block. Usually about a week. You can't send new requests; messages to connections still work. Withdrawing pending requests doesn't lift it, and LinkedIn can't shorten it. 2. Temporary account restriction. From a day to a few weeks. It can come back while LinkedIn is watching your account. 3. Permanent ban. Rare, and only LinkedIn can lift it. After several warnings, the chance grows.

How to fix it

  1. Pause all your campaigns. In Outreach › Campaigns: ⋯ › Pause on every running campaign.

  2. Complete what LinkedIn asks. Confirm your identity or phone number in LinkedIn itself. Follow LinkedIn's steps; Hyre can't do this for you.

  3. Wait at least 48 hours, preferably a few days, without automation. Use LinkedIn normally yourself in that time: read, like, comment.

  4. Clean up pending requests through Pending invites in Outreach, once your account works normally again. Start with the oldest.

  5. Lower your limits under Outreach › Settings: halve what you had, or restart at 5 to 10 requests a day. Keep profile visits, follows and likes low too.

  6. Start one campaign with your best, smallest list. Build up the pace as with a new account: see Warm up a new or quiet LinkedIn account.

  7. Fix the cause. Was acceptance low? Improve your list and your note. Did you use a VPN, a second tool or a volume spike? Remove it.

Is it working again?

  • LinkedIn shows no notice and you can invite someone in LinkedIn itself again.

  • In Hyre your LinkedIn card shows Standard or Premium. Had to log in again? Reconnect: see Reconnect LinkedIn.

  • After a week at a low pace without a new warning, you can raise it step by step.

Prevent it

  • Stay at or below the recommended limits (20 requests a day) until your account has run for weeks without problems.

  • Keep your acceptance rate above 20 to 30% with well-targeted lists.

  • Turn on Withdraw the invite if ignored.

  • No other LinkedIn tools next to Hyre, no VPN to another country.

  • Use a real name and photo on your profile.

Still not working?

If your account is restricted for more than a few weeks or banned for good, only LinkedIn can help. Use the steps in LinkedIn's notice or LinkedIn's Help Center. Want to know what this means for your Hyre account, or want to connect a different LinkedIn account? Send us a message through the chat in Hyre (Helpdesk). Say what you see and since when.
