Recording with Record on your phone and computer

Record an in-person conversation or a memo with Record, and install the Hyre app on your phone with the QR code.

With Record you capture a conversation that does not happen online, or record a memo. Use your laptop or the Hyre app on your phone. The recording lands in Conversations, with summary and transcript.

Before you start

  • Your browser may use your microphone. The first time, the browser asks for permission: click Allow.

  • For your phone: install the Hyre app (see below).

Installing the Hyre app on your phone

Hyre on your phone is an app without an App Store, with its own icon on your home screen. You call, record, write memos and start agents. 1. On your computer, go to Settings › Channels and scroll to Apps & Extensions. 2. Scan the QR code at Hyre app with your phone camera. 3. Follow the steps on your phone: - iPhone: tap Share and choose Add to Home Screen, then Add. - Android: tap install, or choose Install app or Add to Home screen in the browser menu. 4. Open Hyre from your home screen and sign in.

On your computer you can also install Hyre as a separate app, with its own window and an icon in your Dock or Start menu.

Making a recording

  1. Click Record in the sidebar (on your phone the Record page opens).

    The Record window
  2. Under Link a meeting from today, pick the event you are in now. Its attendees are linked straight away. Pick nothing and it becomes a memo.

  3. Add people under Add the people in the room and optionally a title in Title (optional).

  4. Choose Record to record or Write to type a memo.

  5. Pick your microphone and check that the meter moves when you speak.

  6. Click Start recording. Under the timer it says "Hyre uploads the audio while you record."

  7. Done? Click Stop and save.

The conversation then appears in Conversations › Offline or Memos.

Good to know

  • A laptop gives the best result. Put it in the middle of the table.

  • On your phone the recording stops when you leave the app or the screen turns off. Hyre keeps what it captured and tells you why it stopped when you return. Hyre keeps your screen on during a recording where your phone allows it. On a computer, recording continues in a background tab.

  • Always click Stop and save. Hyre only creates the conversation when you stop. Close the browser mid-recording and you will see Retry and Discard next time. The browser keeps the audio for up to 7 days.

  • Internet drops? The recording continues in your browser and the upload resumes when you are back online.

  • "Waiting for audio": your microphone delivers no sound. If it stays that way, the recording stops. Pick another microphone.

  • "Hyre could not open a microphone": allow microphone access for your browser (the lock or microphone icon in the address bar) and try again.

  • Limits: 2 hours, 200 MB and 25 people per recording, 20,000 characters per typed memo. Anything shorter than 5 seconds is not saved.

  • On an open conversation, make a memo with ⋯ › Create memo. Record then opens in Write, already linked to that conversation.
