Recording in-person conversations

Record a face-to-face conversation with Record on your laptop or phone, or with a Plaud or Hey Pocket, so it lands in Conversations.

Written by Robin Alcedo Overbosch

Hyre can capture a conversation across the table too. You get the same summary and transcript as for an online meeting, and log it to your ATS the same way.

Before you start

  • To record in Hyre: a laptop (best result) or the Hyre app on your phone. Install the app with the QR code under Settings › Channels › Apps & Extensions.

  • To use a recorder: a Plaud or Hey Pocket, paired under Settings › Channels › Offline Meetings.

Option 1: record with Record in Hyre

  1. Click Record in the sidebar (on your phone the Record page opens).

    The Record window
  2. Under Link a meeting from today, pick the event from your calendar. Its attendees are added straight away.

  3. Not in the list? Add people under Add the people in the room and give it a title in Title (optional) if you like.

  4. Pick the right microphone and check the meter moves when you speak.

  5. Click Start recording. Put your laptop or phone in the middle of the table.

  6. Done? Click Stop and save. The conversation appears in Conversations › Offline.

Option 2: with a Plaud or Hey Pocket

  1. Pair your device under Settings › Channels › Offline Meetings.

  2. Record as usual and sync the device with the maker's app.

  3. Hyre picks up new recordings about every 15 minutes. They appear in Conversations › Offline.

    The Offline tab in Conversations

After the conversation

  1. Open it in Conversations › Offline.

  2. In Profile, link the right person and choose Candidate or Contact. Every speaker Hyre detects becomes a participant you can link to a contact.

Good to know

  • Always click Stop and save. Hyre uploads the audio while you record, in 30-second pieces. Still, Hyre only creates the conversation when you click Stop and save.

  • On your phone the recording stops as soon as you leave the app or the screen turns off. Hyre keeps what it captured until then. On a laptop the recording continues in a background tab.

  • Upload failed? You will see Retry and Discard. The browser keeps the audio for up to 7 days.

  • Limits per recording: 2 hours, 200 MB and 25 people at most. Anything shorter than 5 seconds is not saved.

  • Someone joining remotely? Record mainly hears what is said in the room. Use an online meeting with the notetaker instead.

  • Plaud delivers a transcript only, no audio. There is no recording to play back.

  • Shared device? Recordings from a Plaud or Hey Pocket go to the person who paired the device.

  • Recordings older than 3 days (for example when a device was not synced for a while) still appear in Hyre, but send no summary email.

  • Hyre does not notify the people in the room. Tell them yourself that you are recording.
