With Custom rules you give an agent or action fixed rules it follows on every run. For example "always put the salary indication at the top of the summary". The agent itself stays the same, so you keep every improvement Hyre makes.
Before you start
Anyone can set rules for themselves (My rules).
Owners, admins and managers set rules for the whole team (Organization rules). Other team members can read them.
Step by step
Go to Agents and find the agent, routine or action.
Click the
⋯menu and choose Custom rules. The Custom rules for window opens with two fields:
Organization rules: applies to everyone in your organization
My rules: applies only to you, nobody else sees them
Write your rules, short and concrete. One rule per line.
Click Save.
Examples
Summary: "Always put the salary indication at the top." "Use the date of the conversation as the date."
Logging: "Log the conversation as an activity, not a task." "Put the summary on the company only, not on the contact person."
Questions: "Always ask whether the candidate has a driving licence." "If the salary expectation is missing, ask."
Messages: "Start with hai, not hoi." "Keep it short."
Good to know
Test in My rules first. Works well? Move it to Organization rules so the whole team logs the same way. Then a colleague can take over your candidate easily.
Not sure how to phrase it? Give the instruction in the chat first when you run the agent. Good result? Ask your assistant to turn it into a rule. Or use Feedback: your assistant writes the rule for you and saves it once you agree.
The agent reads the organization's rules first, then yours.
Above 4,000 characters per field you get a warning (it still saves). More than 16,000 characters isn't possible. Shorter rules work better.
Clearing a field removes those rules.
Feedback on a LinkedIn campaign through Feedback in Outreach also becomes a custom rule, on the Campaign Agent.
Want an agent to really work differently? Choose Duplicate in the
⋯menu and change your copy. See Build your own agent.
